Slow Cooker Spaghetti Bolognese
I usually make a super quick and super plain version of Spaghetti Bolognese. I have been looking for awhile for a slow cooker recipe for spaghetti bolognese, because I have heard the sauce tastes so much better when allowed to cook for hours.

After trying this recipe (based on one from Sally Wise) I can agree with that premise. The meat has a much smoother and richer texture and the kids loved it (well 4 out of 5 did and I think the 1 was just being cranky!).

Slow Cooker Spaghetti Bolognese

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 500 grams premium beef mince
  • 1 large onion
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 400 grams tin diced tomatoes
  • 140 grams tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup of water

Method:

  1. Heat oil in a large frying pan on a medium heat.
  2. Add chopped onion and garlic and fry for a couple of minutes, until soft.
  3. Add mince and be sure to break up the mince thoroughly as it cooks.
  4. Pour this mixture into the slow cooker.
  5. Add remaining ingredients and combine.
  6. Put lid on and cook for 6-7 hours on high.
  7. When ready cook up some pasta and serve with parmesan cheese and cracked pepper.

Yum. One day could you tell us a little bit about slow cookers? You have so many good recipes. I’m hoping to get one but not sure where to start with looking. I’m thinking a better brand will have me worrying less about leaving an appliance on when not at home. Also I believe some have a removable piece that you can braise your meat in first?!

You have convinced me to purchase a slow cooker (Mother’s Day is just 5 days away!). I’m with Brooke, I think a better brand would be best. Can you recommend one or share with us the cooker that you use if you are happy with it?

Sorry, I just wanted to add that I love your book! I especially love the easy to use, easy to reference format. It came at the right time for me, I had just had a new baby and it was the start of the school holidays!! Thanks Nicole.

I’ve just unwrapped my new slow cooker (Mother’s Day gift to myself!) and put this recipe in it. Thought it looked nice and simple for the first use. Am keeping my fingers crossed that dinner tonight will be yummy! Thanks.
