Easy Salsa Recipe

We have had lots of visitors recently and have been visiting others as well. As such I have been making a few batches of salsa. It works well with veggie sticks and corn chips as quick savoury treat to have at home or take with us if we are going out.

This recipe I learnt from another mother in my original Mother’s Group (over 10 years ago!). It is very easy and quick to cook and you can adjust the seasonings to your taste. I like my salsa quite spicy so it children won’t be eating it then I put quite a bit of chilli in it.

Ingredients:

  • 2 tbsps olive oil
  • 1 onion
  • 1/2 tsp minced chilli
  • 2 tsps cumin ground
  • 410 canned diced tomatoes

Instructions:

  1. Finely chop onion.
  2. Fry onion in oil and add minced chilli and cumin to taste.
  3. Add can of diced tomatoes.
  4. Simmer until it is dipping thickness and you have some tasty home made salsa!

Oh yum! How easy and cheap is that Salsa recipe. We eat heaps of salsa (Sunday night is Nacho night, every night is spag bog nite according to master 13 and dips and rice crackers are a standard snack) but paying $4.00 a bottle is ludicrous. I’ll try this and let you know what the taste testers return.
