great planning ideas – I would add a bit of fat to those lunchboxes though – unless they are all on a diet!
Fat sources like butter and cheese and yoghurt and homemade stews, etc. enable the kiddo’s brains to keep on working and absorbing information. I’m not sure that a little homebaked sweet will provide enough energy for the little ones to run around and have good strong thinking capabilities.
    Thanks for the ideas!
    Cheers, Amy

Amy – Thanks for the tips. I have tried and do try again from time to time with cheese sticks in the kids lunch boxes. The main reason for this is not only the benefit of the nutrition of cheese, but it is great to eat that last and help rid the teeth from some of the nasty sugars that linger after eating fruit. Unfortunately however, it generally comes back squashed in the bottom of the lunch box.

Deborah – I know! I have to admit to feeling a little sad as I read all these “spring is here” posts around the blogosphere!

My lunch boxes look very similar to yours….sandwich, fruit, crackers or home-baked goodies. No wonder the kids get excited on school holidays, when they are more likely to get something hot and ‘special’!

My exclusion list is also similar to yours (from your spring post), for slightly different reasons though. My kids don’t like warm cheese & yoghurt and I have a daughter who is allergic to nuts. The other two could, but at the end of the day all of those options are quite expensive. We choose cost effective lunch ideas and balance out the day at the meals we have at home.

excellent plan. school starts up again tomorrow and that means school lunches noooooooooooooooooo. with cut up veges i put a little container of homus or sour cream or cream cheese for them to dip into. you may be able to use this instead of cheese.
