Early this week the kids and I attended the preview screening of Sea Rex 3D at IMAX Melbourne.
We have seen a few of the IMAX 3D documentaries recently, like Born To Be Wild and To The Artic and we have really enjoyed them. They are all very entertaining but also each time the kids and myself have walked away with more knowledge about the world around us.
While my favourite story line from the three we have seen would be Born To be Wild, the 3D effects of Sea Rex 3D were by far the best. I sat next to the six year old who was constantly reaching out, “just checking”, to see if things were as close to him as they looked.
The documentary goes from the past to the present to explain when and where these amazing sea creatures were on the earth. They visit paleontologists from all over the world including one from Australia who share what their discoveries have taught us about the giant creatures of the sea.
You can see more about the movie in the trailer below (if reading in email you will need to click here to see the trailer).

Thanks for the great giveaway
Oh my kids love dinosaurs, full stop. We’ve been talking a lot about them lately and I even managed to pick up a tub of plastic dinosaurs for Christmas. I look forward to creating a tub with dirt and stones etc allowing them to use there imagination.
I’ve always thought of dinosaurs and thought of trees and dirt, never really given water a second thought!
My boys are dino intensive! And have been for a couple years. They would love to see this. Their fav prehistoric creatures are T Rex and Megladon!
My eldest son still loves the raptors (his 7) but now he really appreciates their intelligence and the fact that they weren’t even very big. Thanks too for posting this great giveaway.
I know that my son is growing up as he used to love the more placid plant eating dinosaurs like stegosaurus and triceratops, but now it is T-Rex all the way with him.
T-Rex all the time with our small ones, they just love them, and try and pretend they are dinosars when playing, it is great to watch them. I know they would love this IMAX movie and would keep them talking about dinosaurs for years to come.
My son was just three when he came out with pronouncing Brachiosauraus. Fascination with dinosaurs immense!
Miss Six loves woolly mammoths, particularly Manny, Ellie and Peaches from the ‘Ice Age’ movies. She’s love to take a ride on one, in amongst all that hair!
master 6′s fav is the pterodactyl. “cause it flies”…but any prehistoric animal gets the thumbs up from him. we read and love all things dinosaurs. cheers!
My boys love the stegosaurus because of the horns on the head – I think they imagine how useful they would be during playfights!
Cant beat the T-REX!!!
My son likes T-Rex because he is “noisy and likes to stomp!”.
His favorite is a archaeopteryx a member of the oldest birds ever
Miss Two loves her green windup dinosaur when mummy makes it go RAAAAAA. Enjoys coming up to my knee, poking me with it, and asking for “Raaa’s mummy?”
And Miss Eight likes the really huge underwater ones, like Megaladon, with all those teeth and the size of a bus!>
My daughter loves triceratops. She is always drawing dinosaurs and loves drawing the “spikes” on its head!
My son loves t-rex’es in fact our puppy is called T-rex!
My little one loves the Tyrannosaurus rex because of his favourite movie “Toy Story”.
Hannah says everybody. Knows that T-Rex is the king of dinosaurs.
My kids love Mutti the Muttaburasaurus because he was a puppet character in a show at Questacon about why the dinosaurs became extinct. He is an Australian dinosaur.
My son always chose the long necked brachiosaurus because I guess he could relate to their gentle and passive nature…a lot like him!
My daughters like the crocodile (still around too)… cause they go snap, snap, snap
the Triceratops, he loves the 3 spikey horns on their head!
My 5 year old loves the Velociraptor because he reckons it could run almost as fast as he can!
Grandpa! My Dad has them both convinced that he grew up living in a cave & him & his parents were cave men, AND he even had a Tyrannosaurus Rex as a pet!
Dino from the Flintsones!! We loving call our son Bam Bam due to his size, and his favourite prehistoric creature is my giant stuffed Dino from when I was a girl.
My boys love Pterodactyl’s, because they’re massive! And they if they were around today they could train them to fly off with people that annoy them (like Nanna!!). You should see them in fits of laughter when they talk about how big their pooh would be & imagining if one landed on you while you’re in the back yard playing!
The T-Rex. The huge head and teeth captivate him.
My son is obsessed with all things Dinosaur and extinct. This si his answer verbatim lol
I love diplodocus he is my favourite dinosaur but I also love kronosaurs (ancient relatives of crocodiles which I think Sea Rex might be about!!!). Also even though it’s not really a dinosaur I really like Carcharodon Megaladon the 60 foot ancestor of the great white shark. Their teeth were about 17 cms long with a 9 foot mouth span (big enough to eat a Tyrannosarus Rex!
My daughter has only just starting exploring the world of dinosaurs, so she doesn’t have a favourite yet but I’m sure she will if she goes to see Sea Rex
My two kids love Triceratops! They would love to catch the train and have a day out in the city and watch the film!
Their Great-Grandma!
My daughter loves the plesiosaurs – how can a dinosaur swim? I like them too, I used to think the Loch ness monster might be one of these!!!
Icthyosaurus! He’s baffled by how they look like a dolphin but they’re a dinosaur. He can’t imagine any life has existed on Earth so long!
We can’t go past the dinosaur.
Kids love ‘exploring’ them more and more.
Lots to lean and discover each day.
Wishing they were around today!
T-Rex is all time favorite in our home
My boys saw the trailer and were hooked.
My son really loves Ammonites. He has a big folder of prehistoric animals that he sits and goes through for hours. I’d love to win this prize for him Thank-you for the opportunity.
Both my boys love T’Rex, we have just been to Seaworld where they were in awe of the Dinosaur Park.
My 6yo son loves Titanoboa, the longest known snake to have ever lived. He must have watched the documentary 20 times. I think the sheer size is what appeals to him and the fact that it could have squeezed a monster crocodile to death.
My little girl loves the brontosaurus I think she is fascinated with how enormous they are!
My 5yo son loves T-Rex of course! He loved seeing the skeleton of it on the museum trip he did with his grandparents! Great prize!
My daughter is a historian in the making, anything that shows life before iPods and iPads encourages her passion.
