Recipe type: christmas
Ingredients:
  • 340 grams white chocolate
  • 80 grams popcorn kernels
  • 300 grams green and red M&Ms
  • 300 grams mini candy canes
Method:
  1. Pop popcorn, I use an air popcorn machine.
  2. Make sure you take out any unpopped popcorn kernels.
  3. Sort M&Ms. I have seen tubs of red and green M&Ms around before, but couldn't find any when I was shopping. So I used 4 x 200gram packets of normal M&Ms and just sorted out the colours. M&Ms are one of my favourite chocolate treats, so wasn't too sad about having some left over :).
  4. Unwrap candy canes and place them into a plastic bag (I actually put it inside another one as the bag sometimes does get little holes in it.)
  5. I really liked these candy canes for two reasons - firstly, the packaging was so much easier to open and secondly they have natural colouring.
  6. Smash the candy canes with a rolling pin. I left a few bigger pieces to mix it up.
  7. Break up white chocolate and add half of it to a microwave safe bowl. Melt on high for 30 seconds, stir, then 15 second bursts after that until completely melted.
  8. Pour half the melted chocolate onto the popcorn and gently stir.
  9. Add the M&Ms and stir gently again.
  10. Melt the remaining chocolate as you did with the first batch and add to the popcorn mixture.
  11. Stir gently and briefly and then add half of the smashed candy canes.
  12. Once mixed, pour onto a baking tray lined with baking paper and spread out evenly.
  13. Sprinkle remaining smashed candy canes on top. I actually didn’t use all the remaining candy canes, so just use as much as you feel gives good coverage.
  14. Let the popcorn mix set. I made this popcorn on a very hot day and it took a few hours to set.
  15. Break up into pieces and place in plastic bags.
  16. Add a ribbon and you have your pretty Christmas treat to give to friends. This made 20 small bags of Christmas Popcorn.
