Italian Meatballs
- 3 slices of bread
- ½ cup milk
- 1 onion
- 500 grams beef mince
- 1 egg
- 1 tbs basil leaves dried (fresh would be better, probably about 3 tbs but I didn't have any fresh!)
- 1 tbs parsley leaves dried (again fresh would be better!)
- ½ cup parmesan cheese grated
- 2 tbs olive oil
- 2 cloves garlic
- 500 grams pasta sauce
- 500 grams spaghetti to serve with
- Remove crusts from bread and then tear into small pieces and place at the bottom of a large bowl.
- Add milk and let soak for at least 5 minutes.
- Grate onion.
- Lightly beat the egg.
- Add onion, mince, basil, cheese, parsley and egg to the bread.
- Add salt and pepper to taste and use hands to combine meatball mixture.
- Roll into small balls and place on a lined baking tray.
- Bake for about 30 minutes or until the meatballs are firm and are browning.
- Heat oil in a heavy based saucepan.
- Fry garlic for a minute or two, then add pasta sauce and bring to the boil.
- Reduce heat to very low and add meatballs.
- Cook pasta and serve meatballs atop of spaghetti.
