The Very Hungry Caterpillar activity pack
Frank Woodley (from Lano and Woodley) has a great short little video on reading tips for Dads, which you can see here. I am not sure that many dads could do the voices quite like Frank, but through his very elaborate voices, you can get his ideas! The key message from the video is really about adding your own personality to the storytelling – kids love their dad and will love his interpretation. Reading stories to kids isn’t just reading the words on the pages, it is adding more to it, to make it a joined experience.
There is also this great video – Bluey: My Dad is Awesome | Read aloud by Sam Thaiday. Sam is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played for the Brisbane Broncos in the National Rugby League. He is also author of the book Tries, Lies and Meat Pies.
You can find more read-aloud stories from Penguin on their Youtube channel here, which includes Paul Kelly reading Who Sank the Boat? by Pamela Allen, Hairy Maclary from Donaldson’s Dairy by Lynley Dodd | Read Aloud by Morris Gleitzman and Bluey: The Creek | Read aloud by John Wood
