Congratulations to Stacey from QLD! Please check your inbox to claim your wonderful prize!

In September 2020, Puffin commemorates the huge milestone of 80 years of publishing! With a diverse range of books by a huge list of talented authors, Puffin has been inspiring kids to read for 80 years and will continue to do so. If you take a quick look at your kids’ book shelves, I am sure you will find plenty of Puffins there! Some favourites in our house have been:

The Very Hungry Caterpillar

The very hungry caterpillar

There is something pretty special about reading a book to your kids that you loved as a child. Can you believe that The Very Hungry Caterpillar was first published in 1969? It has been translated into 25 languages and sold over twelve million copies. The book hasn’t dated at all. The illustrations are still amazing. You can buy The Very Hungry Caterpillar online here.

Hairy Maclary from Donaldson’s Dairy

I actually still know so many of the lines from this book. Bottomly Potts all covered in spots, is a personal favourite! Little ones love the rhyming fun in this book and it is fun for the reader too. You can buy Hairy Maclary from Donaldson’s Dairy online here.

Where is the green sheep?

where is the green sheep

I adored this picture book and so did the kids. It is so much fun to read and the kids engage with it so well. I loved the illustrator – Judy Horacek’s recent COVID-19 drawing of the green sheep which you can see here. You can buy Where is the green sheep online here.

Matilda

matilda

This is my personal favourite Roald Dahl book. I love that Matilda is so smart, funny, brave and stands up for herself. Dahl has such a great skill in making adults being the unlikeable characters in his books and the kids the stars! You can buy Matilda online here.

Bluey: The Beach

Bluey the beach

While my kids are too old for Bluey, my nephews aren’t and he is one of their favourites. I was happily introduced to him by them last school holidays and loved him. Bluey, joined Puffin’s ranks in November 2019, with the first three titles cementing themselves as the second-, third- and fourth-highest selling Australian children’s books of the year.

Since publication, Bluey book sales have exceeded one million copies across the series. In May 2020, Bluey: The Beach was awarded the ABIA Book of the Year in an unprecedented win for children’s books. You can buy Bluey: The Beach online here.

Puffin water bottles

To celebrate Puffin’s 80th anniversary they are rolling out exclusive Puffin water bottles to bookstores around the country, free to customers who purchase any two Puffin books. This is only while stocks last, so if you are able to visit book shops in your part of Australia, get in quick!
