I don’t think there would be many parents who haven’t read Where’s Spot? by Eric Hill, once or more like 1000 times! This was one of the first books we received for our first child. He adored books even from a very young age and Where’s Spot? was definitely a favourite with him and his siblings. As soon as we finished it, he would be “again, again”, I think my personal best for repeat readings of Where’s Spot? was 9 times!
There was always such delight in his face when we read the book, even though he knew exactly where Spot was. I think he even enjoyed it more because he felt like he was in on it and he knew where Spot was.
One of the things I loved as a parent about Where’s Spot? was the simplicity of the story and imagery. It built anticipation and helped the young ones to focus and keep their attention. The hide and seek flaps encouraged curiosity and interactivity making reading the story a fun time together.
Being that my eldest is now 21, I knew the book had been around for a lot of years, but I was blown away to find out that this year is the 40th anniversary of Where’s Spot?.
To celebrate the ruby-anniversary of Where’s Spot?, Puffin have released a gorgeous edition of the classic hide-and-seek book. It comes with a ruby foil cover and is in a new large format. This new edition is a wonderful way for parents to share a much-loved favourite with their little ones.
