Achieving Your Goals

Do or do not… there is no try

In my newsletter last week I actually quoted Yoda – yes a Star Wars character! Hilarious for me really as someone who really feels no affinity to the Star Wars series. But I did feel an affinity with the quote:

“Do or do not… there is no try.”

Even if you have only been reading my blog for a few months, you would have noticed how much I struggle with one of my goals – getting a decent amount of sleep at night. My goal is actually very moderate in that it is only setting the bar at six hours a night, but I regularly miss the mark.

While I was away in Japan, I came to the realisation, that it is very much my attitude and approach that is holding me back. I will say “I am going to bed at 10.30pm tonight”, but then let myself get caught up in work. Working from home means I can just keep working and I regularly do.

This month my approach is going to be different. Just like I have made it not negotiable with myself that I get up each morning to exercise, I am going to apply the same discipline to going to bed.

I take good care of myself in the way I eat and exercise, yet let myself down with sleep. Sleep is equally as important to my health and I need to be more serious about getting more.

What about you? Is your attitude or approach to a goal holding you back from achieving it?

My September goal review

Goals

Progress

Me - I am less rushed and healthier.

Continue to improve my diet: one meat free meal a week, reduce consumption of sugar and carbs. In Japan I let loose on the clean eating and ate all sorts of things! Some as part of experiencing Japanese culture and some just because really!

It was really interesting to see the side effects of eating foods, particularly refined sugar and gluten that I have note eaten for months.

By the time I was on the plane heading back to Australia, I was incredibly looking forward to getting back to my clean eating routine.

It was a beneficial experiment and it has given me more to think about with regard to how I approach the food I consume.
