Helping Variety Help Kids In Need

Variety is a not for profit organisation that has been actively helping kids in Australia since 1975. Variety assists Aussie kids who are sick, disadvantaged or have special needs to attain their full potential. They do this by giving them practical equipment, offering programs and experiences which allows kids to gain mobility and freedom, to get out and about in the community, be able to communicate, achieve independence and increase self-esteem, and where possible the assistance to help them be integrated into mainstream school and activities.

Many Australians would connect Variety with the annual Variety Bash events that are held around Australia. The Variety Bash in the words of the originator Dick Smith is ‘A drive in the outback with a few mates’. It is a key fundraising event for Variety. This year a good family friend of ours Lindsay, not only made the trip from by Shepparton to Hamilton Island with his mates, but their car, Car 96 raised $39,000 and came 6th overall in the Bash. Such an amazing effort by them and the other 300 entrants in the bash.

Variety receives over $1 million worth of appeals and requests for assistance every month. As a not for profit organisation they are only able to offer support because of the generosity of individuals like those who take part in the Variety Bash and corporate supporters like Nurofen. Nurofen donated $50,000 to Variety in 2011 and with some help from friends on facebook this year, they are hoping they can do even more for children in need of Variety’s help.

Not all of us could drive from Shepparton to Hamilton Island in 10 days, but if you are on facebook you can like the Nurofen Facebook page and Nurofen will donate $1 to Variety in Oct – Dec 2012 for each like they receive. How simple is that!
