We have been having a bit of a run on birthday parties at the moment. We go through phases with the types of gifts we give to others. If I had my way, I would give books every single time, but the kids don’t always want to do that.
So with their help we have a couple of go to gifts that we put together ourselves for their friends at the moment (for the under 10s). We often buy materials for about three gifts at a time and buying in bulk like this allows us to split items and keep the per unit cost down. Meaning we can give a great gift for a great price:
Construction Box
Age: 5 – 10

In this kit we bought the wooden sticks, the paper plates and plastic cups in bulk, then sectioned then up or bagged then up in zip lock bags.
Sewing Box
Age: 8 – 10
Cost: Under $30 (we bought the sewing boxes on sale so our sets would have come in under $20, so you could put it together cheaper if you have a cheaper sewing box.)

My daughter had such a lovely time sorting out the contents amongst the three boxes we put together. I try where I possible to get the kids involved with putting the present together.
Drawing Kit

- Plastic envelope
- Black card stock
- Metallic pencils
- Pastel gel pens (these ones work best on the dark card stock)
- Pencil sharpener
- Rubber
I will often buy good quality pencils/pens at sales and pop them in the present box. They are often on sale very cheaply at the back to school time in January. We can then put them together with some extra bought items if needed.
