For quite some time now, every time I post school holiday activities for Melbourne, I received many requests asking if I can compile lists for other cities. Well thanks to the hard work of Jo from Little Melbourne and now also Little Sydney, this school holidays, we can share great kids activities in Sydney!
Little Sydney is just starting up, so if you live in Sydney and haven’t liked the facebook page, you really should! You will find all sorts of wonderful things to do with the kids in Sydney – not just for school holidays, but all year round.

Children’s Workshop: Who Dun It at the Australian Museum
Become a Forensic Science Investigator and solve crime. In this workshop you will learn about uses of DNA evidence in the illegal exportation of exotic animals around the world and gain an understanding of the importance of DNA to our collections. Can you use your new found knowledge of environmental forensics to stop an environmental catastrophe?
On this one-day workshop you will:
- Solve mysteries on a criminal search throughout the museum
- Meet members of the Museums DNA sampling team
- Look at unknown animal similarities in our collections
- Extract DNA from strawberries
- Receive lunch and morning tea

Kids’ Club at Sydney Academy of Sport & Recreation
A fun-filled daytime only camp with each day is full of action and activity. It’s a great way to get out in the open and release all that energy! Parents must organise transport to and from the Centre each day.

Mini Chef Kids Cooking Classes
We cook savoury dishes kids love to eat and can cook at home themselves – and we also indulge in a few wicked things!
Hygiene, nutrition – and loads of laughs – are all on the agenda. The children eat the food we have prepared at the end of the class and take home whatever is left over.

Pirate Plot of the Silver Thieves
Follow the story of Joseph Kaye, the Wentworth family’s butler who stole some silver and then tried to escape by stealing the Wentworths’ boat. Solve a variety of clues that will take you around the estate and hopefully lead you to the hidden treasure.
This is an outdoor event. Participants are encouraged to wear flat, closed walking shoes, a hat and sunscreen.

The Great CP Egg Hunt
Back for its second year! Purchase a trail map from the Visitor Information Counter and follow the clues around the Parklands. If you make it to the secret location you may meet a furry Park resident friend who will be waiting to give you a very special Easter prize. Trail maps available on the day from the Visitor Information Counter, off Banksia Way, adjacent to Centennial Parklands Dining Kiosk.

Fishing Clinic for Kids
Go fish! Come along to a great family activity, be coached by “Tony the Fish Whisperer” and gain some valuable hands on fishing skills. Carp are an aquatic pest species which degrade the quality of Parklands’ pond water. Volunteer anglers have been removing Carp in order to manage the population, but why should the adults have all the fun?
