30 Day Challenge Update - One Week Down!

Well I am officially on to day nine for the 30 Day Challenge (runs on US Eastern time) and I am actually pretty amazed that I have managed to keep up. It has required a lot of hours, which has meant a lot of late nights! I haven’t really minded this though as I am thoroughly enjoying what I am learning. And I am learning loads.

The 30 Day Challenge is an online internet marketing course which has the ambitious aim of starting August with an idea and turning it into an online business which has earnt $1 by the end of August.

Ed Dale is the face of the 30 Day Challenge and he is a fellow Melbournian. Other charactes are Guru Bob (amazing knowledge) and Dan Raine. So what have I learnt this week? In summary:

Internet Marketing is a “symphony of four parts”.
(1). Market Research
(2). Traffic
(3). Conversion
(4). Product

The first week of the challenge was primarly on Market Research and we have now moved on to traffic.

Some things and people that have helped me keep up this week have been:

    - Menu planning for the month of August. When it comes to meals and shopping, I am on auto pilot and it is great to have one less thing to think of.
    - Sound processes. The kids know our drill and on days when I have been very busy I have enlisted their help. The older ones have been very good at completing small tasks to help me out.
    - My older sister. Sam is going to have the two smallest children each Monday from tomorrow, through out August. I am generally not great at asking for help, but to keep all the balls in the air I just needed some more child free time. Thanks so much Sam!
    - My friends. Lou took beautifully Babaganouski for a play for a couple of hours on Friday when I had hid a brick wall with some technology. I also needed to bake tarts for the preparation evening that night for my eldest son’s first eucharist, so I had very limited time on Friday to work on the challenge, so I really appreciated your help Lou!
    - Mr Infrastructure. He went to the shops for me on Thursday night (to get the ingredients for above mentioned tarts), made sure I had petrol in the car and gave me a sleep in on Saturday morning. Thanks!

Well I don’t think the pace will slow down at all this week, so I apologise if I have not responded to your comment as of yet. I aim to get there by the end of today. :)

Two Mosaic

Two Mosiac by you.

1. Lemons - a rare treat, 2. fellowship of the ring, 3. Number Two, 4. Parquímetro, 5. Two lemurs eating, 6. Nobody knows where they are…, 7. We Failed to Surprise Two Deer, 8. Two !, 9. Red telephone boxes

Creative Kate at Picklebums features Flickr Friday each week. This week the theme is Two.

Kate has twins so two would be a very important number in her house. My youngest is two and it is such a gorgeous (sometimes incredibly frustrating though!) age. His willingness to learn and his love and adoration of his siblings is beautiful.

Is the number two important in your life?

Some Exciting News!

Pear by S Baker.

What is with the pear? That is approximately how big our new baby is at the moment. I am very excited to share that we are expecting our fifth child in mid January.

We are all very excited about the baby and other than additional tiredness I have been very healthy and well. I have endeavored to get to bet earlier though but have not always been successful!

August 1 saw the start of the 30 Day Challenge for me (and 1000’s of others), so this will be a very busy month at our house. I may not be commenting as frequently on other blogs, but I will be still ploughing through my Google Reader to keep up with all my favourites.

Is anyone else (other than fellow Team Lightening members) doing the 30 Day Challenge?

Seamless showcases costumes from some of the most memorable moments in Australian dance history and reveals the fascinating stories behind their design through the designers and choreographers who created them.

There are some stunning costumes on display and it is definitely worth a visit if you are in the city.

The Role Reversal Experiment

This week Mr Infrastructure kindly took a week’s holiday leave, so he could stay home and allow me time on projects that I needed to work on. The Role Reversal Experiment has been an interesting insight for both of us.

We agreed that I would work a similar schedule to Mr I’s hours. We have an upstairs study and that was to be my “office” for the week. I would come up at the same time Mr I would usually leave for the train (approx 7.15am) and work until after 6pm. On a good day, Mr I is home by 6.45pm, but there are many late nights that go significantly past that - but 6pm was enough for me!

Naturally there was flexibility through out my day and assistance given as required, but on the whole MR I was running the show.

This is what I have learned so far:

I miss doing the daily stuff with the kids. Things like the walks to school, the pick ups, helping them with their reading or homework and hearing about their days. They are not so interested in repeating the news of their day a second time around much later in their day.
The children can cope without me! When both mum and dad are both around the children still come to me and as such I tend to do the majority of the primary care. I probably need to let go a bit and empower dad to deal with these daily issues.
When Mr I puts his mind to it, he can actually cook.
Due to my behaviour, the children expect an ordered and routined life. For some of the children, if dad did things slightly different to me, they were not always happy about it.
I love being home full time with the children.

Mr I will guest post next week to share what he learned from the experience. Sometimes it is good to see if the grass is really greener on the other side!

The Lazy Bloggers Blog Post Generator

Have you ever been to Aussie Bloggers? You don’t have to be an Aussie to enjoy this place. This week is a very exciting week at Aussie Bloggers as it turns six months old and to celebrate they have given a present to the blogosphere - A Lazy Blogger Blog Post Generator.

It is a nifty little tool that you can play with to give you a reason as to why you haven’t updated the blog recently. This is what I came up with when I had a little play with the generator:

Darling I just discovered I have not updated this since the sun was actually shining in Melbourne. You would not believe my anguish at my misdoings. I hope you still love me!

I am overwhelmed with responding to fan mail spending, my husband’s money and just generally being a Darling to society in general. My day is dreadfully busy from midday to early afternoon. I am convinced that I absolutely deserve a break after all my hard work. I wish you could be here to share it.

I absolutely, positively promise to send a missive out on the wire, post-haste. I promise! This is for my ever faithful, devoted public.

Head on over to Aussie Bloggers and have yourself some fun. And if you haven’t joined up at the forums yet, be sure to do so. It is full of good folk who are very helpful and know how to have a good time.

6 Things Meme

Earlier in July Guera at A Roaming Aussie Mum tagged me for the 6 Things Meme. The Roaming Aussie Mum is now back home, and her new blog design is amazing so you really should stop by and check it out. My Team Leader in the 30 Day Challenge, Lightening also tagged me and other member of the team, which was a great idea by Lightening. I will now be able to find out more about my fellow team mates!

This is challenging meme for me as I tend not to go too far into my personal life on the blog, but I thought I would give answering the questions ago. Let me know what you think!

6 places I have lived
My list is very dull compared to the well traveled Roaming Aussie Mum, and involves sometimes moving only one suburb away!
(1). Mildura - Country Victoria until I was 17 years old.
(2). Surrey Hills - Eastern suburb of Melbourne. My first share accommodation was a bit of a disaster, but I lived to tell the tale.
(3). Epping - Far north eastern suburb of Melbourne. With no part time job for a short time and still a year left at Uni, some fantastic relatives of mine, let me stay for nominal board. Did mean over 1.5hrs of public transport to uni though.
(4). Richmond - My first taste of inner city living, pretty much underneath the tracks leading into Richmond train station.
(5). Abbotsford - On suburb away from Richmond and across the road from Victoria Park (the old home ground to Collingwood Football Club).
(6). Richmond - Moved back to a suburb I loved, where we bought our first home.
(7). Surrey Hills - Moved to the burbs, to have more children. I have ended back in the first suburb that I lived in when I came to Melbourne - how scary is that!

What I was doing 10 years ago?
I was half way through my first pregnancy. I had started a new position with the large telco company that I worked for in January, so that I could obtain some people management skills. I was managing a Directory Assistance call centre (about 50 people) in Dromana. I really loved this job, but I didn’t necessarily love the 1hr and 15 min drive each way. My green conscience wouldn’t let me do that know!

5 things on my to-do list today
1. Set up Time Machine (back up facility) on my new MacBook.
2. Watch my oldest son’s football match - for so many different reasons, I haven’t made it to one game yet this season.
3. Prepare my handover list for Mr Infrastructure (we are swapping roles for a bit next week - how fun!!!!).
4. Long Term Goal Paper
5. Update Calendar with new dates.

Snacks I like to eat
1. Chocolate - as bad as this sounds, I would have a little bit every day!
2. Cut up apple, preferably Pink Lady.
3. Vegemite or Peanut butter sandwiches.
4. Nuts - pistachios, almonds or cashews

If I was a billionaire
1. Give to our family members what they need.
2. Build the completely sustainable home. I actually dream about this one frequently!
3. Travel with the kids. I would love the children to have the experience of visiting other cultures.
4. Resources for refugee children in Australia - a cause I feel passionately about.

I think tradition would have that I tag 6 bloggers now, but I have been tagging a bit lately so I have just chosen three dear friends to tag:

ickle kids

Creative Kate at Picklebums features Flickr Friday each week.

Each week Kate posts a new theme for which to search for images on Flickr. I have copied Kate’s advice on using images from Flickr which are ok to be shared:

“I use compfight to search for my flickr images - select the ‘commercial’ option and you will get only photos that are ok to be shared. Then I use bighugelabs.com to make my mosaic (gives me a handy pre-made list so that I can make sure to credit where the photos came from) and then I upload it to my flickr account”

I have been aiming to join in for a while, but Kate’s winter theme this week finally got me going. Like Kate I am not a fan of winter and find it a bit hard to deal with. I thought if I looked at some pretty pictures of winter, it might convince me other wise. At least it was worth a try!

Head on over to Kate’s and see some other gorgeous mosiacs.

Six Word Memoir

All the way back in April the delightful PreSchool Mama tagged me for this meme. The aim of which is to obviously write your life memoir in six words. I filed it away to take some time to ponder what beautiful bit of prose I could whip up!

I have to admit that it did then slip from the front of my mind until last week end, when I came across the Six Word Memoir twice. The first occasion was when I was tagged by the talented Naomi at Nomesque Life.

The second occassion was when I read an article of a book called “Not Quite What I Was Planning“. Before reading this I thought that the six word memoir was a just blogosphere connected meme, but it is actually a much bigger thing. The book Not Quite What I Was Planning is a New York Times Best Selling collection of six word memoirs.

The memoirs have been collated by Larry Smith and Tim Barkow from the online magazine they founded called SMITH. Anyone can add their memoir to the online magazine.

In the book there are additions from everyday people, but also many celebrities including Stephen Colbert, Amy Sedaris, Dave Eggers, Richard Ford, Deepak Chopra, and Moby.

In the article on the book they publish a couple of six word memoirs which I found to be truly telling:

“Stole wife, lost friends, now happy.”

And this one from Hemingway:

“For sale: baby shoes, never worn.”

Now my attempt is no Hemmingway, but I think it represents my life to date:

“Casually Carefree, Life Love, Beautiful Brood “

And just for fun I entered mine to the SMITH mag as well. So now it is my turn to tag a few bloggers. Please accept or decline this mission as you wish. And feel free to join in even if I don’t tag you, drop a note in the comments if your playing and I will come and see your work of art!
