How to clean your microwave without nasty chemicals

Our microwave gets pretty dirty quite often. The kids are great at making themselves meals/snacks from left overs. A side effect of this is the mess it creates when they heat things up in the microwave. They certainly are getting better at it, but regularly our microwave will look like this:

But with not much effort and without using nasty chemicals it can look like this:

How to clean your microwave without nasty chemicals

  1. Cut up a lemon and place in a microwave safe dish.
  2. Pour in water (anywhere from 1 ½ – 2 ½ cups).
  3. Place in microwave on high for approx 3 – 5 minutes depending on microwave and amount of water used. Water needs to have reached boiling and be steaming in the microwave.
  4. Let sit for 5 minutes.
  5. Wipe down with a damp cloth to remove the mess.
