I’m torn!! My fridge needs an overhaul so I desperately need the Ventsmart containers and you can never have too many Modular Mates, but the Cookie Cannisters are so damn cute… classic head vs heart dilemma. This is why I get anxious & excited when I see a new catalogue! I dream of a kitchen full of tupperware!!!

I’d love to grab the big pink round cake keeper to take all my baking to work to share. The more I share the less I wear and it looks gorgeous!!

This is a review post.

As I have become more serious about reducing my carbs, a whole lot of new pantry items are making their way into the house. And since my pantry moth outbreak earlier this year, I have been paranoid about putting anything in the cupboards without it being in a sealed container.

Lucky for me Tupperware sent me a limited edition Modular Mates. They are part of Tuppereware’s birthday celebrations which will take place in May. As you can see in the photo, they have pink lids, which is the first time Tupperware have produced pink and as it is available for a limited time only.

So when I purchased all the ingredients to make this trail mix recipe, I had containers for all of them to go into. Nuts and seeds are not always cheap, so buying in bulk is a cost effective way for me to create a healthy snack for morning or afternoon tea.

I have chosen to store these Modular Mates in a cupboard away from the main pantry area, to prevent little hands from being tempted to sneak some of the contents!

Trail Mix Recipe

Thanks to a friend, I recently came across the Primal junction blog and found this recipe. It is fantastic blog written by Lizzy Marsh (B.Ex.Sci, MBA) and focuses on a back to basics’ approach to optimising nutrition, health and performance. The blog has so many great recipes and I can highly recommend trying out the Clean and Lean Muesli.

Ingredients:
You could choose a whole different bunch of nuts and seeds, but this combo works really well.

  • 1 cup coconut flakes
  • 3/4 cup macadamia nuts
  • 1/2 cup walnuts
  • 1/2 cup goji berries
  • 1/2 cup raw cacao nibs
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup pumpkin seeds

Method:
1. Grab a large bowl to combine all the ingredients.

2. You could add the coconut flakes as is, or you can roast them up. I went for the roasted option.

3. I just cooked them in a non stick pan for a couple of minutes until they started to brown slightly. They are really delicious!

4.  I roasted the pumpkin seeds as well, they change shape slightly and have a lighter taste roasted I think.

5. Add the coconut and pumpkin seeds to your bowl.

6. Chop up the macadamias.

7. Chop up the walnuts.

8. Add the cacoa nibs. In chocolate manufacture, the cleaned broken pieces of the cotyledon of the cacao seed which remain after the roasting, crushing, and winnowing processes are referred to as Cacoa nibs {source}. They are an antioxidant, a great source of magnesium and make you think you are having a chocolate treat!

9. With all the ingredients in the bowl, add in the cinnamon.

10. Stir around and then make up snack size portions.

This trail mix recipe is the perfect snack when you are on the go.

It takes a little time to pull this together, especially if you are roasting some of the ingredients, so I am going to double the ingredients next time I make this.
