Branding Your Blog – My Blogopolis Presentation and Pretty Photos of Sydney!
by PlanningQueen on July 2, 2012 in Blogging
On Saturday I delivered my presentation on Branding Your Blog at Nuffnang Blogopolis. Blogopolis is an annual blogging conference and this year it was held in Sydney. I had a fantastic time and have shared my presentation on slide share for those who are interested. You may need to click through here to see the slide show if you are reading via email.
24 hours in Sydney Via Instagram
I was in Sydney for just over 24 hours, but had time for some quick sight seeing and iPhone photo taking. You can follow me on Instagram (planningqueen) or if you don’t have an instagram account, you can still take a peek at my photos here.
The weather was superb. Melbourne has been bitterly cold, so to be able to wear short sleeves out on Friday night to the pre-conference was such a thrill.

The Airport Train service from Sydney is brilliant. Reasonably priced and frequent, making getting to the city super easy.

Took a very long cut walking from Circular Key to The Rocks where my hotel was. I was using Google Directions on my iPhone, but took the car directions and with Sydney’s myriad of one way streets, the driving route took me twice as long too walk!

Bonus of my navigation errors was I saw things like this, which I wouldn’t have otherwise done.

I stayed at the Harbour Rocks Hotel and can recommend it highly. I wished Mr I had been there to share the loveliness of this hotel with me.

I wished I had time to use this!

My room was off the gorgeous little courtyard.

My super comfy bed for the night.

As I mentioned the weather in Sydney was so lovely, it was beautiful to sit here and look over my presentaion.

I had time for a quick run to the beautiful Sydney Botanical Gardens and around the Opera House.

Pre conference drinks at Helm Bar.

Heading back to the hotel to get some much needed rest via the Suez Canal.

Foyer at the Harbour Rocks Hotel.

More photos of the pretty lights in the courtyard at the Harbour Rocks Hotel.

A quick run on Saturday morning meant I was able to capture this lovely view – taken at about 6.30am from The Rocks.

How I wished I had more time to stay!

Blogopolis was held at Sofitel Sydney Wentworth Hotel which was a great venue.

Was able to catch up with many wonderful bloggers including Christie from Childhood 101 and her beautiful little girl.

Twinings sponsored the conference and provided the most amazing high tea.

Jeff Tan had a great presentation on SEO and Google Analytics

Then it was my turn to present. {Image credit – Trevor Young. If you are interested in the whole concept of personal branding, you should check out Trevor’s new project Micro Domination where you can download his free Mico Maven Manifesto.}

Rachel Divine presented a really practical session on Blog Photography and gave out the most beautiful booklet to accompany her session which included the key points.

It was a super fun day, which I had to leave early unfortunately, so missed the frivolity of the post conference drinks. But made it home in time to attend the lovely Mr I’s birthday party.
How was your weekend?

Glad to hear you made it home in time for bday celebrations! Was lovely to meet you, Nic.
Also, you were right about the after party shenanigans. One too many mojitoes for me!
I certainly didn’t miss the hang over! I really enjoyed meeting you to Brooke. Loving what you are doing on your blog.
When instagram went down mine was stuck on your picture of Christie. Which was adorable.
Next year I will be there, dammit.
How annoying was it with Instragram down??? Lucky you had a cute pic on yours
> Eeek! Poor you
So nice to see you again. Next conference, I am not going to take the photos so I can spend more time in the sessions. From what I heard of yours (before having to go next door), it was great! I wish I could have stayed for the whole thing!
I know exactly what you mean Rachel, having been part of the organising team for a couple, the experience is very different than just being an attendee. Looking forward to seeing your photos though!
Thanks for the great photos of Sydney. It’s a city I adore for short visits, and your fabulous photos really made me feel like I was there enjoying all the highlights of your trip! What an enjoyable trip and conference it must have been.
Thanks Kim. The weather was so fab. I too really love visiting Sydney.
Thanks for posting your presentation Nicole. I wish I could have attended but there are just too many great events this year to have to choose from! I appreciate the tips on Google Alerts and Curalate.
The blogging conference calendar is quite full now in Oz!
I loved listening to your presentation, Nic. Actually I can sit and listen to your wisdom for hours. It’s always a pleasure to catch up with you xx
Such a lovely thing to say Tina! Enjoyed catching up with you too. Hope you enjoyed the rest of your time in Sydney. x

Thanks for sharing. I wish I could have been there but life conspired against me. I loved the photos, both of the conference and of Sydney. Lovely!

I’m so glad I had the chance to listen to your incredibly informative session and meet you in person (even if it was in the ladies! Ha!) I came away from Blogopolis very inspired and with a long list of things I want to with on my blog.
Thankyou so much for your generosity, Nicole. Much appreciated!
What a great eye for photography you have, I just love your photo’s, thanks for sharing. Thanks also for posting your presentation, it’s really made me think about my blog brand!
Hello again, it was lovely to meet you in person at NNB2012, there really is nothing like meeting someone IRL. I got a lot out of your presentation and have SO many ideas for my blog and my brand. I need to get a plan, set some goals, and take it one step at a time, because right now all the new words of wisdom from NNB2012 are fighting for space in my head.
Beautiful photos!
Thank you for the awesome presentation at Blogopolis. I think I got everything you said despite my sugar high from too many jelly beans, either way you gave me a lot to think about and I have a long to do list!
Thanks again
thanks for making your slides available. I was so bummed I couldn’t make Blogopolis this year.
[...] A highly organised woman who has created a distinct brand for her blog (I had to hide my home-made business cards at this point). Nicole explained you had to protect your brand in all aspects, consider carefully the events you attend – even if you don’t blog about the event/company behind it others may take your photo and tweet/instagram/blog it – implying your tacit approval and support of the company. Nicole has posted the slides from her presentation. [...]
Great round up of pics – loved the angles and different view points. Really enjoyed your presentation too. Thanks for a great session. Have written a few points about what you had to say over at my own blog as a kind of wrap-up post
I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed your presentation on branding. So much fabulous information! Thanks for posting your presentation, I am looking forward to having another read! It really was a fabulous weekend in Sydney and it was so lovely to have a chance to catch up with you there.
