Chicken Sausages and Salad

Calling this a recipe is probably a bit of a stretch really! But I am making my way through all the recipes that will be in the menu planner app and making sure they have a photo and a post of their own.

You don’t have to use chicken sausages either, more often we have your standard sausages, but I really like the chicken satay sausages, so will buy plain chicken for the kids and satay for Mr I every so often.

This what I describe as a self serve meal. We put the sausages on the plate and then the kids can choose the salad they would like to eat from communal plates on the table. I find these types of meals work really well for kids – they feel a level of control over what they are eating. I make sure some items every child will eat.

Chicken Sausages and Salad

Ingredients:

  • 16 sausages (This feeds our family of 7, you may like to reduce this number if your family is smaller.)
  • 1/2 lettuce
  • 1 red capsicum
  • 3 large carrots
  • 1 cucumber
  • 2 tomatoes

Method:
I like to cook the sausages on the BBQ during summer time, but they can be cooked in a frying pan or under a grill. They only take about 15 minutes to cook so this is a very quick meal to prepare and cook.

1. Heat BBQ.
2. While this is happening, begin preparing the salad. The kids can help with this by:

  • Tearing up lettuce in to chunks .
  • Chopping carrot carrot.
  • Slicing cucumber thinly.
  • Cutting up capsicum into sticks.
  • Cutting tomatoes into wedges.

3.Turn sausages frequently so that they are evenly browned.

The yellowy looking ones are the satay ones.
