Last week I showed you just how far $100 could go at Big W, when buying clothes for a preschooler.

Clothes not only need to look good for a preschooler, but they need to be durable and wash and wear well. To fully road test, or I should say grass test the clothes from Big W, we met the amazing photographer Rachel Devine at a wonderful nature park, where the littlest one could run, climb, crawl through dirt and grass, climb trees and play with big sticks.

All of which are some of his favourite things to do! Here is just a snap shot of our wonderful morning:

The little one is wearing a very cute printed long sleeve tee ($4.48). This photo was taken at the beginning before he was yet to warm up to his environment.

BigWfinal_dogtdiptych_planningQ
The long sleeve tee looked great teamed up with his $9 skinny jeans. And this is the very first photo on the blog of our beautiful new puppy – Lucas!

BigWfinal_109_planningQ-800px
Starting to find his feet now and some bigger sticks!

BigWfinal_112_planningQ-800px
A quick outfit change into grey jeans ($14.88) and a funky black and white long sleeve henly tee shirt ($7.96) and we were ready for more exploring.

The tree made the perfect little seat for him. The outfit looked gorgeous and it with held all the bumps, knocks and scratching that happens when kids play in trees.

BigWfinal_115_planningQ-800px
We then found an even bigger stick!

BigWfinal_118_planningQ-800px
All the clothes I bought allowed the little one to play and run around, including the skinny jeans ($9) and Bonds 3/4 sleeve tee ($13.92).

BigWfinal_117_planningQ-800px
And run they did! Running, falling over, wrestling and having a great time together.

BigWfinal_125_planningQ-800px
There was some fabulous tall grass and sprawling trees in one section of the park that was just perfect for playing hide and seek and then having a bit of a cuddle!

Well worn jeans
After all that, his jeans looked like this.

After the wash
Then after a quick burst of pre-wash spray, a cycle through the washing machine, clothes line and ironing, they looked like this – passing the little one’s grass test with flying colours!

Jeans, leggings and plain long sleeve t-shirts are my essential buys because they can be teamed with anything and dressed up or down.

I suspect my girls would consider a new pair of boots each an essential buy

What wouldn’t I buy! My pre-teen 12 year old loves the pink sugar range which is fantastic because its far cheaper than some brand name clothes. From the catalouge I would say she would like the denim skirt and crop jacket. My 9 year old boy needs well wearing every day wear like the shock resistant track pants and hoodies.
I love Big W for its bonds range. I think it has the best range around and my 2 year old son lives in them and with another due in July I know I am going to have to stock up!
I love that Big W can supply such a good quality range for all my kids different stages.

  • Cindy

With two girls aged three and seven, you can never have enough clothes! Cute t-shirts, leggings, shorts and tutus, as well as gorgeous little girl shoes are just some of the items my girls love. Dresses are also a bit hard to resist!

Skinny Jeans $9 perfect with cute canvas sneakers and LS Tee
Girls Print Front Tee $5.84 to wear with either jeans or leggings as above
Bonds LS Tee $10 in dark grey (a hint of pink added with hair accessories or handmade brooches)
Canvas sneakers $9.94 navy blue cute and comfy
And finally some printed socks, singlets and a set of PJs

The Shock Resistant Jacket at the moment with the trampoline, tree climbing and general all round lets see how fast we can destroy every item of clothing going on at the moment,
A good hard wearing jacket for the up coming colder months is just what I need to limit the up coming scrapes and bruises (I hope),

With 2 mischievous boys in our house plus 1 slightly larger one (dad) I love the idea of the shock resitant wear. It sounds perfect for us because every time the boys come in from outside play I get a shock ***** at the site of them and then I can’t resist ****** buying some new clothes (ha ha ha) No really, I would love to try them out. Any jeans and track pants are welcome in our house :)

    Love the photos too!!! :)

My Dd as a homeschooler likes to decide her own uniform daily. The Pink Sugar girls wear is perfect with its variety, shorts, skirts and tops. She can mix and match to her hearts content…and her uniform is a statement of who she is every day. Not conformist, one look fits all!

Big W is definitely is my favourite store for kids clothes. I have 4 kids my two youngest are 4 and 3. As you can imagine my 3 year old adventurous son is always getting holes in his tops and has outgrown all of his winter clothes from last year so will need everything from socks, flannelette pjs and shirts, long sleeve tops, track suits, jeans, jumpers and winter boots.

    Thank you :)

Tracksuit pants and Jeans as my son is growing at lightning speed!

  • Tamara

For Miss 9 – black skinny jeans for underneath her tutus. She’s obsessed. Miss 11 has a serious obsession with funky quirky t-shirts, and Big W has a seriously cool range of them in the menswear section – she makes a bee-line to them whenever we head in store!! And for Mr17 – got any blacker?? A few standard black bonds tees would make him a happy camper (well, as happy as you can be when you spend your life in black, anyway!)

  • Amy Van

Zip Hoodies and a Hooded Fleece Gown are essential for my too-soon-to-be-teenage son. And a Shock Resistant Shirt and Tie are a must, because when he’s not ‘in da hood’ he likes to dress snappy.
