Lion King 3D Review + Giveaway!

This give away has now closed and the winner was Ash! Thanks for visiting Planning With Kids!
Lion King 3D

The Planning With Kids family were invited by Porter Novelli to celebrate the release of the Lion King in 3D, by attending a private screening in the Director’s Suite and then spend the night at Melbourne Zoo with their Roar ‘n’ Snore package (more on that in the next post!).

We set out on our adventure on Tuesday afternoon, completely perfect timing for us, in the middle of school holidays. We had a fantastic time and it is without doubt the highlight of our school holidays.

Lion King 3D Review

Lion King 3D
Before we watched the movie, there was time for face painting. Now I might be a little bit biased, but is he not the cutest little Lion King???

Lion King 3D
It took me until I was nearly 40, to see a film in the Director’s Suite. Mr 2.5 settled in with no troubles with the 3D glasses to watch the film.

We have Lion King on video, but no video player so only the older two kids had seen the movie. The Lion King was originally released in 1994 and the animation was ground breaking at the time, particularly in the wildebeest stampede.

The animation is still fantastic and hasn’t dated. The 3D version gives the film layers and depth, particularly in the jungle scenes. When Zazu (a Southern Yellow-billed Hornbill) was flying in the opening scenes my daughter reached out to touch him. The 2.5 year old seemed mesmeried by it!

I kept up my record of crying every time I watch the Lion King and made sure my daughter was sitting nearest to me as I knew she would cry too – and she did. For the 7, 5 and 2 year olds who hadn’t seen the film before, it has been not stop singing of Hakuna Matata since we watched the movie.

While a little dark in places the story of the Lion King, has many themes in the film that resonate well with me – growing up, redemption and finding your place in life. Along with the kids, I very much enjoyed watching the film.
