Easy Chocolate Cake Recipe
This is a lovely light chocolate cake recipe. It is super easy to make – a great cake to bake with the kids. All ingredients get thrown into the bowl and mixed! The only downside is it only makes a treat for the school lunch boxes for a couple of days only with our 5 kids.

Easy Chocolate Cake Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup self-raising flour
  • 1 cup caster sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 eggs
  • 125g butter, melted
  • ½ cup milk

Method:

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C.
  2. Line a 20cm round cake tin with baking paper.
  3. In a medium sized bowl, add all ingredients.
  4. Use an electric mixer and mix for about 2-3 minutes or until mixture is smooth and well combined.
  5. Pour cake mixture into tin.
  6. Bake for approximately 45 minutes.
  7. When you remove the cake from oven, let it cool in the pan for about five minutes or so.
  8. Turn the cake out on to a cooling rack.
  9. Make sure it is completely cool before you ice it. We just dusted it lightly with icing sugar.

Sounds yummy and I need something to replace Banana cake in Juniors lunch box (at $12 per kg I can’t afford it). Is it really only 1 cup of flour?

I know, I feel bad every time we walk past a fruit shop and my little one says “nana” and I don’t buy them. They are so expensive!

Yes it is only 1 cup of flour. I thought it strange too, but it does work out.

Thank you for the recipe. I’ve put it on my list for this week. I’m going to have to download your menu planner as well. Seriously you could charge a fortune for it I think!

Oooh, it looks too easy! I like it.

I am just going to pop over and check out your slowcooker satay… that’s one that sounds like it needs to be made in our kitchen! x

made it yesterday for today’s lunchboxes. Delish – light and fluffy, and love that there was no creaming of butter and sugar (my pet hate when baking!). thanks.

    Hey,

Was just wondering what kind of sugar to use?

    • nellbe April 09, 2011 at 4:34 pm

I am yet to make it but if it doesn’t specify, I would just use normal white sugar. I hope that helps.

Thanks nellbe – I made it on the weekend and ended up using caster sugar, my partner ate it without any complaints so I must have done well :)

      Hi Jade,

Yes it was caster sugar. I have edited the recipe so it states that. Glad the cake worked out well. Thanks Nellbe for answering for me when I was away!

We are in the United States and do not have metric measurements, so I don’t know how to determine the amounts. Could you alter please?
