Jelly Oranges

I firmly believe there is some foods that are “kid foods”. For me jelly is one of those “kid foods”. As an adult I just can’t eat it, but it is still a hot favourite with my kids. This kid snack is an old school favourite which I loved as a kid. I hope your kids enjoy as it it is a great recipe to get kids into the kitchen.

Jelly Oranges

Ingredients:

  • Approx 5 oranges
  • 1 packet jelly crystals
  • Boiling and cold water as per jelly instructions

Method:
Jelly Oranges Cut In Half
Cut oranges in half. Make sure that you cut from top to bottom. If you cut against this you may have holes in the oranges that leak jelly.

Jelly Oranges - Scooping
Cut around the edge of the orange with a paring knife. Make sure you don’t cut through the skin of the orange or else the jelly will leak through. Then use a spoon to scoop out the orange.

Jelly Oranges - Scooped
Once the orange is emptied of its fruit, place it on a tray ready to fill.

Jelly Oranges - Pouring
Pour jelly into each empty orange. Fill until a few milllimetres until the top.

Jelly Oranges - Tray
Allow jelly to set. This takes a couple of hours.

Jelly Oranges - Cut in half when set
Once jelly is set, cut orange halves into quarters.

Jelly Oranges - Kids
Serve on a platter and even as an adult if you think these look inedible, sit back and watch the kids love them!
