This post is part of my Christmas Preparation plan. This week’s task was making the last of our handmade Christmas gifts. This year we have also made some retro coasters, chalkboard notice boards and a simple bunny softie.

The three younger kids and I had a great time earlier this week visiting the Friends Of The Earth Food Co-Op in Collingwood (Melbourne). We were there to buy tea. This handmade Christmas Gift (as seen above!) was a beautiful jar of tea and a tea infuser.
The food co-op is an ethical trader located at 312 Smith St, Collingwood. It provides affordable, low packaged (bulk) food, fruit and vegetables, health and eco-cleaning products. There is also a lovely cafe and shop on the premises. The shop stocks all sorts of super fair trade / sweatshop free / eco-friendly goodies. Definitely worth a look if you are looking for Christmas gifts that have small eco footprint and something a little different (for example note pads made from elephant dung!).
We chose our tea from the many varieties that they stock.
You bring along your own jars to put your purchases in, so the first step is to weigh the empty jar.
We then filled in the product code for our tea and the weight of the jar.
We had time for some every day maths learning, talking about price and weight!
The labels were stuck to the jars.
We scooped in our tea.
We also bought pistachios as my kids are slightly obsessed by them.
Then we turned the lovely organic tea into a handmade Christmas gift:
- for some of the tea sets we stuck with the natural theme which we have chosen for Christmas this year.
- we bought these lovely jars here – Ball Collection Elite 250ml Preserves jar
- we wrapped some twine around the lid and threading a tea infuser onto the twine.
- then used one of the handmade tags for decoration and labelling.
What have you been making for Christmas?
