Thank you for your interest. The competition has now closed and winners will be announced Saturday 12th Dec 2009.

Lego City Helicopter Transporter

We have a massive tub of Lego at our house, so when I was asked if I would like to review the new Lego Helicopter Transporter which is part of the Lego City range, I knew my kids would be ecstatic.

Lego City Helicopter TransporterAs a parent I think I love Lego as much as the kids do, but probably for much different reasons than they do:

  • They learn to follow step by step instructions. Children can be very impetuous and want to dive head on into things. With Lego though, they know that to build their vehicle they need to concentrate and follow the instructions as laid out.
  • There are many small pieces of Lego in the kits and for my boys who are too old to do threading etc, it is a great way for them to practice fine motor control.
  • It is an activity that they can work on together or solo, depending on their mood.
  • It is a “quiet” activity. As mentioned in my post earlier this week, it is a great way for tired children to amuse themselves.
  • Once they have built the Lego item by following the instructions, they can they use their imagination and creativity to build all sorts of wonderful things.

Thank you for your interest. The competition has now closed. Winner will be announced Saturday 12th Dec.

The kids worked together on the Helicopter Transporter Set and had construction sessions over a couple of nights after dinner. They were so excited to have it finished and when one of my 8 year old’s friends visited, he exclaimed “ahh that’s sick!” as soon as he saw it!

Well he, along with all other Australian readers will have a chance to win their very own Lego City Helicopter Transporter (RRP: $59.99). It would make a perfect Christmas present for any child aged 5 – 12.

Lego City

To enter all you need to do is leave a comment telling me why you love Lego and you will be in the running. The competition is open to Australian residents only, with a limit of one entry per person. It will close Friday 11th December 2009 at 12pm AEDT. The winner will be announced on the blog on Saturday 12th December. Good Luck!

Me, and my three absolutely adore Lego! We’ve been known to devote entire afternoons to the construction of it, and I love to see the children working happily together. Any mum can tell you that that alone, is priceless! Thanx Lego!

I have loved lego my whole life and I’m sure my son will…..it promotes creativity and uses most of your senses….and at the end you have something you have built and if you don’t like it you can try again.

Flexible designs, unlimited creative options,
what else could my boy ask for?
Lego makes building a breeze
Easier than the A, B, C’s.

I love that lego has minimal packaging – it is basically the outer box, and then a thin baggie or two inside – bless Lego corp and their ability to not fall to the overly packaged hype that has gripped the retail world!
I also love just how many things a few blocks of lego can become in the hands of different imaginative children. I loved lego as a kiddie, and my brood are into it as well!

colours, connections, shapes, personalities, endless opportunities for play and learn

What do my kids want to be when they grow up?An architect, an astronaut, a mechanic or a policeman, my kids change their minds daily, Lego you have so much to nswer for, Inspiration and Satisfaction!

Vivian December 9, 2009 at 9:29 pm

My kids are really getting into lego, guess what it is their Dad’s lego. Lego is fantastic for their minds, their fine motor skills, it is bright and colorful and does not go out of date.

ellie rumble December 9, 2009 at 10:30 pm

All my kids have loved lego and it has been especially wonderful for my ADHD child who can build and design for hours – so rare.

Barbara Burt December 9, 2009 at 10:57 pm

My Grandchildren use their imaginations once any leggo comes out on the floor and they play for hours on end.

Ally December 9, 2009 at 11:37 pm

Lego is endless fun for all ages from 6mths to 100+ years, with the littlest imagination you can create any masterpiece imaginable.

Maia December 10, 2009 at 12:48 am

LEGO is fantastic because it is one of very few activities my husband enjoys getting involved in with our daughters. He won’t play dolls, or tea sets, but when the LEGO comes out he is the first to lie on the floor and start constructing. The girls learn so much from this time together.

Judi Hurst December 10, 2009 at 1:07 am

We’ve had our Leggo for over 25 years, my kids played with it and now my grandkids. We often add to it as its a durable, challenging and most of all fun family activity.

michelle wright December 10, 2009 at 1:21 am

lego makes the kids think and stop fighting and encourages team work and communication skills it gets them away from the tv and video games it helps improve on there reading as they read the instruction and is good for there fine mottor skill and good to spend quality time with a parent if they require help. my kids love lego and so did i whwn i was young.

Megan Meyers December 10, 2009 at 7:57 am

My 8 year old son has a massive box of lego collected over the years, and he still can’t get enough. Once he has built the particular vehicle etc from the set, he pulls it apart and makes his own creations. He’s created a submarine, moon buggy, hovercraft, jet plane and jail cave, just to name a few. I have even started taking photos of his creations as I’m proud of the details he manages to put into each piece and I think he may appreciate his home made structures more when he gets a bit older. The lego has also proved a winner with all his friends and family, boys and girls, ages 3 and up!!!

Sara December 10, 2009 at 8:10 am

Lego can be played alone or shared with friends, its one of the calming activities you want for your children that builds expression, artistic ability and fine motor skills, not to mention it has no age restrictions and is fun fun fun, we love it

Linda Steabben December 10, 2009 at 8:29 am

Lego grows on you!

Vicki Fraser December 10, 2009 at 11:35 am

Lego enables you to build your own world and unleash your creativity, imagination and building skills. Just got to love Lego! Fun for the whole family!

Haley Douglas December 10, 2009 at 11:35 am

I think the best part of LEGO is when you loose the instructions and have to creatite yourselves.

Elaine Onekawa December 10, 2009 at 1:41 pm

My son is fascinated with Lego. He likes to build very high blocks and then get his cars to CRASH into it and giggles away to the crashing sounds of lego;)

Erika Collis December 10, 2009 at 1:49 pm

Found my 18 year old son “playing” with his Lego that he has kept since he was a child – Duplo included! He said he couldn’t believe how creative they were and wants to “treasure” tham for his own children

Bree Vallance December 10, 2009 at 2:49 pm

we love lego because it is an activity that we can all do as a family. We love creating something together. It also keeps (me)mum happy as it keeps the kids busy!!!

amanda scott December 10, 2009 at 3:18 pm

It is only limited to your imagination as to what you can build and create with Lego – I loved Lego as a kid and it still has a timeless appeal for todays and tommorrows generation.

Dianne Russ December 10, 2009 at 4:41 pm

Lego keeps the kids occupied for hours. I have a bucket of it that was used by my children and is now amusing my grandchildren. It just doesn’t date.

Nicole December 10, 2009 at 7:35 pm

I’m eight years old and really love Lego.It is a really fun thing to do and keeps my mind active with all the different things I can make.

Anthea December 10, 2009 at 8:46 pm

Because it’s extra special bonding time for my husband and son – and there’s rarely an injury (apart from sitting on the odd piece!)

Karen Martin December 10, 2009 at 9:14 pm

My 5 year old daughter loves lego and has roped off half of the lounge room for her “city”. So good for fine motor skills.

Lucy Leland December 10, 2009 at 10:10 pm

I love watching Lego animations on youtube. Perhaps one day we’ll make our own!

Bernadette Hendry December 10, 2009 at 10:15 pm

I played with it as a kid and never got bored -
Now I use it to build the things I can never afford!

Jenny R December 10, 2009 at 10:19 pm

I love lego because it encourages imagination and keeps the kids quiet!

Michelle F December 10, 2009 at 10:26 pm

With Lego, kids are actually using their creativity and imagination, not just zoning out to TV or video games.

dreamgenie December 10, 2009 at 11:23 pm

GO GO – Lego is KING,
Makes the kids’ hearts sing,
No longer considered just a toy,
A timeless classic bringing much joy.

Bronte Duke December 10, 2009 at 11:37 pm

I played with it, my kids played with it, my Grandkids play with it. It really leaves other blocks for dead. It does.

Linda Clark December 10, 2009 at 11:45 pm

Lego is never boring. Its interchangable the only thing that limits Lego is the imagination of the user. Ive seen a computer game get tossed over for Lego.

RJ December 10, 2009 at 11:45 pm

Kids love Lego, it’s undisputed.

Mums and Dads however, would love it even more if it came with a special lego picker upperer!!

Grace B December 10, 2009 at 11:55 pm

Family moments are to treasure,
With Lego their Imagination can last forever.
My Twins have Autism and ADHD,
Lego’s the only thing that makes them happy.
We build all sorts of things each day.
It’s a safe toy that’s hard to break.
So building is fun with lots to create.
It’s learning, and building their motor skills,
Thanks to LEGO we have all have thrills.

Ruth Larman December 11, 2009 at 12:13 am

Lego lets children’s own imagination shine through.

Kellie Quinn December 11, 2009 at 12:23 am

Lego’s the one toy that never dates,
Makes you laugh and have fun as you happily create,
From castle’s to rockets, its so easy to do,
Lego uses our minds and of course, our hands too,
My children sit quietly building Lego ideas,
When they finish, they show as and we all clap and cheer!

Teressa Bateup December 11, 2009 at 12:45 am

Lego has got to be the best construction toy around. Ideal for boys and girls and it lasts for generations and generations. My kids are playing with blocks that are over 30 years old!!!

marcus smithwick December 11, 2009 at 12:48 am

lego has lasted more generations than any other toy in my house

belinda December 11, 2009 at 12:58 am

It’s money well spent on a product that is proving to be timeless in our family. We first bought it for my son when he was one. It was then passed on to his brother who is also now one and the other day I came home to my boys one and seven and their father who’s 40 all having the best fun building a massive tower together. Timeless and Priceless!

Maria Wilkins December 11, 2009 at 1:17 am

Lego allows one’s imagination to run wild
