Yes, all good advice, and very useful in helping kids process things. My daughter's school has been collecting old sheets and towels for the Werribee Vet Hospital which is treating many injured native animals and she has been very keen to help me sort our linen and deliver it - I think practical action is so important for kids to feel some sense of agency in these tragedies. We also have not had TV on at all (on news, I mean) as I don't think it is helpful or necessary for a 5 and 3 year old to see these images. We have talked about the fires as much as they want to and I haven't withheld any truths from them, but the graphicness - no, that they don't need.
