I always send a thank you email to family members who give the girls a gift - usually with a photo of birthday girl and playing with the gift she received (or wearing the clothing).

We do the same at Christmas time also.

Email is easier for me to do and I can get it done in a timely manner.

Our family is pretty far flung so I think it is important to acknowledge the time and effort it takes to purchase and post gifts.

Marita's last blog post..Happy Birthday Annie

The Emergency plan is a really good idea, particularly if you have a winter birthday. Guerita's first birthday was completely rained out and instead of having our huge backyard available we all crammed into our tiny family room! Very hard with a lot of toddlers around! We did rig up a big tarp over the paved area when we could see the rain coming, but still - not quite what we had planned.

I haven't done thank you cards in the past, but it's a nice idea and great to get the kids involved, particularly when they're a bit older and can write them themselves or help make them.

Guera's last blog post..Random Facts with a Twist
